We are a leading provider of support for people with learning disabilities and associated difficulties.
Although The Ferns has only been operating since summer 2014, the company has over twenty years’ experience of providing the Residential Care Model.
The home is managed by Mrs. Julie Morrison and her deputy Mrs. Mandy Brady. Both Julie and Mandy joined Avens as care assistants and have worked their way to managerial positions.
What We Do
The people we support may have a range of needs that require intensive support including:
- Autism;
- Physical disabilities;
- Sensory disabilities;
- Epilepsy;
- Associated mental health support needs;
- Supporting people whose behaviour presents challenges.

Person Centred Planning
At The Ferns we pride ourselves on our person centred support and care. All of our support is determined by the individual and ensures the person is supported to lead a fulfilling life. We welcome working as part of a Multidisciplinary Team so that the care and support we provide is holistic and person centred. We actively welcome and encourage Circles of Support at reviews, especially during the development of person-centred plans. Circles of Support are also encouraged to advocate, when required, on behalf of service users, when support is working and when it is not.
The Ferns has an open door policy as we have every confidence in our staff and the service we provide. We believe this promotes teamwork and an honest and transparent service, with a team who is understanding and approachable. The home is often complimented on making visitors feel welcome and its lovely homely atmosphere.
Our Home
Our home consists of two adjoined properties in the market town of Raunds, Northamptonshire. Care is split between one ten bedded unit and one five bedded.
Previously registered for twenty-seven and known as Kingfisher Residential Care Home for the elderly, it was acquired for us in 2013 before undergoing extensive redevelopment and refurbishment, in order for us to offer care to fourteen adults, in first-class surroundings.
By utilising existing space differently, room has been allocated for the installation of top of the range en-suite facilities to most of the home’s bedrooms.
Current Vacancies
We currently have one vacancy, an upstairs bedroom with it’s own living area and en suite walk in shower room. The Ferns is known for it’s stunning and luxurious living spaces and this room is no exception. This room also has nearby, easy access to the lift, which connects the first floor to the ground floor, making it more than suitable for someone with mobility issues.
